Hardscaping Project in East Hartford, CT
Project Overview
We recently completed a custom hardscaping project for a client near Martin Park in East Hartford, CT. The homeowner wanted to improve drainage along the side of the house and add visual structure to their front yard. The property had an uneven slope and no clear walkway, making access to the backyard inconvenient and messy after rainfall.
Why Hardscaping Works Well for East Hartford Homes
Many properties in East Hartford include older sidewalks, sloped yards, or basic gravel paths that shift over time. With the town’s mix of clay-rich soil and changing weather patterns, it’s common for yards to experience water pooling or erosion. Adding stone or paver hardscaping provides stability, protects landscaping features, and boosts curb appeal. In this case, the goal was both practical and aesthetic.
Our Hardscape Installation Process
We started by excavating a narrow trench along the home’s edge to install a base for the new paver path. We used a mix of crushed gravel and sand for a stable foundation, then laid concrete pavers in a staggered joint pattern for grip and water flow. To complement the design, we added a matching stone border around the flower beds and installed a small retaining wall to level out the yard’s rear corner.
All materials were selected to match the home’s exterior tones. We finished by sealing the pavers for longevity and adjusting the slope to direct water away from the foundation. The hardscaping took three days to complete, and it blended seamlessly with the existing yard.
Results and Client Impressions
Hardscaping project in East Hartford, CT. The yard was improved with a new paver walkway, retaining wall, and defined mulch beds, creating better drainage and curb appeal.
The new path created a safer and more attractive way to move through the yard. The retaining wall allowed the homeowner to reclaim part of their sloped garden, and the entire front yard now looks more refined. The client noted that their neighbors complimented the upgrade, and they have already asked us to return for a small patio addition in the spring.
